Recently I underwent a robotic hysterectomy for Stage 4 Endometriosis under the care of Dr. Manisha Singh at Fortis Hospital, Bangalore. I wanted to share my journey because if it gives even one woman hope, every word will be worth it.

I am a Bharatanatyam dancer and a software engineer. As a teenager, whenever I had an exam or a dance performance, the first thing I checked was not my preparation—it was my period dates. Every month, the pain was so severe that I missed school, celebrations and trips. I was bedridden for days. Passing urine or stools felt unbearable. Painkillers became part of my monthly routine, and my family tried everything they could to help.

When I first sought medical help, my pain was dismissed as ‘normal period pain.’ Like many girls, I accepted that suffering was simply part of being a woman.

Years later, after I got married, an ultrasound finally revealed the truth—Stage 4 Endometriosis along with PCOS. Suddenly, years of unexplained pain finally made sense.

My mother found Dr. Manisha Singh while looking for an expert to handle endometriosis, and from then on my journey changed. Along with managing endometriosis, we also learnt that fertility could be affected. I underwent laparoscopy, IUI and IVF treatments. This part of the journey was no less stressful emotionally, financially and health wise. Though they were unsuccessful, they taught me an important lesson: sometimes our body tells us when it has had enough, when we should Stop.

When we decided to stop fertility treatments, my family stood firmly beside me. We realised that becoming parents was much bigger than giving birth. We chose adoption.

After completing the formalities, we patiently waited for 2+ years for our turn. I returned to dancing, started teaching children Bharatnatyam, changed jobs, bought our home and continued regular follow-ups while keeping endometriosis under control with medicines, exercise and a positive mindset. One beautiful day, we received the call we had dreamed about. We met our baby girl angel! The moment her tiny fingers curled around my sleeve, I became ‘Mommy.’ The title I was yearning for more than anything, that single moment erased years of pain and waiting.

Life became beautifully busy. Dr. Manisha mam managed my endometriosis for almost ten years by journeying with me hand-in hand on the treatment, life style, consistent monitoring and always told me that my greatest power was Dance, I should always continue doing it. By the end of ten years, it became clear that the safest long-term option was a robotic hysterectomy and of course Dr. Manisha mam was always there from start to end. Because of the severity of my disease, the surgery lasted nearly seven hours. Thanks to the expertise of Dr. Manisha mam and her team, it was successful, and within a few days I was back home taking my first careful walks.

Recovery was not easy. There were weeks of pain, fatigue, sleepless nights and learning to trust my body again. But slowly, day by day, I healed. My husband, daughter, parents and inlaws became my greatest strength.

If you are reading this while waiting for your appointment, feeling frightened because someone has just told you that you have endometriosis, I want you to know this—you are not alone. There will be difficult days, but there can also be beautiful days ahead. Seek the right treatment, listen to your body, lean on the people who love you and never lose hope.

Endometriosis was a part of my story. It did not become the whole story.

If my journey encourages even one woman to seek help earlier or believe that life can still be beautiful after endometriosis, then sharing it has been worthwhile.

Beyond Endometriosis – My Journey of Hope

We feel truly blessed to have had Dr. Manisha Rajpal Singh and her team with us during our pregnancy journey. She has been a constant source of support, guidance, and reassurance — not only this year but also last year when we went through a very difficult time in pregnancy.
